“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying
to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.”
~Ralph Waldo Emerson
1803-1882
Some say we all have a spark of the divine within us. I tend to agree. Why is it when we try to find a way to focus on what makes us unique and outstanding; things that make our lives meaningful, there are so many distractions?
There are malevolent forces behind this. We have been subjected to a plethora of diversions made to keep us from what we are intended to be.
You may or may not relate, but the internet, with all its obvious benefits and miraculous connections, is an unbelievably powerful distraction. In the future there will probably be anonymous meetings, similar to AA, for people to regulate their time online. When in public, all you have to do is look around. So many people with their phones in hand looking down at a screen. I almost believe the little device in our pocket owns us.
Although it is interesting to surf the net for like-minded posts, we tend to lose our own divine singularity. No matter how much you agree with any given post, article, meme, or whatever, there is nothing and no one who sees things from your unique perspective, with all the subtle innuendos of our personal life experience and our valuable, authentic purpose.
Given the state of affairs in our country, and worldwide, the ultimate reality of individuality is lost among all the hype. There has been a hard push towards “the greater good” and a social construct that robs us of our innate, extraordinary objective. The process of critical thinking, creative thinking and striving for excellence are rendered moot. Censorship is a powerful weapon in extinguishing valuable, personal perspectives.
Humanity has been corralled into convenient little boxes of stereotypical categories further dissolving our distinct integrity, and worse yet, setting us against each other based on the most ridiculous things like skin color and gender, thereby implementing engineered social discord. This is a nefarious attempt not only to eradicate our divine sovereignty but to strip us of our unlimited capacity, intelligence and dignity.
Many years ago I made an observation that has become painfully real today. I would watch certain shows, commercials, movies…et al, and found that most of it appealed to the very basic, primitive aspects of the human condition. Instead of appealing to our better angels and showing to the public, people who live by a higher standard, they gave, and continue to give us the dregs of society and make us feel better that way. “I may be bad but, at least I’m not that bad.” kind of a thing. I used to say it makes us comfortable with our sins. It had to be at least 30 years ago when I recognized this trend. To present to humanity actual noble, moral and high-minded individuals to emulate would give us a sense of empowerment, which is antithetical to the enemy. Modern day heroes are found in athletes, entertainers, Marvel comics and fantasy films.
Michelangelo once said, “The greater danger for most of us lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark.”
What they don’t want you to know is that the real hero we are looking for is inside each and every one of us. What is it that you feel called to do? Has there been a persistent feeling that tells you to take a different path? Go for it! It may take some courage and patience at first but eventually, with determination, you will get some traction. You can make a difference.
The most fulfilling and valuable journey begins with the first step…follow your bliss, find your spark.
Be well my friends
